Hello, My name is Derrick Whiting. I am running for State Central Committee as a Democrat in the 40th district!

I am currently serving on the State Central Committee in the 40th District to serve my community and advocate for positive change at the state level. With a deep understanding of our district's challenges and opportunities, I aim to be a strong voice for our interests and concerns.

My candidacy is rooted in grassroots organizing, community engagement, and a commitment to transparency within the Democratic Party. By collaborating with residents, organizations, and elected officials, I seek to address key issues such as public safety, education, economic development, and healthcare.

Ultimately, I believe that by serving on the State Central Committee, I can help shape a more inclusive and responsive Democratic Party that prioritizes the needs of all Marylanders. Together, we can work towards a brighter future for our community and our state.

The purpose of the Baltimore City Democratic State Central Committee is to serve as the backbone of the Democratic Party. The Central Committee works to ensure that Democrats are elected in local, state, and federal elections. In the case of vacancies in the State Government, the Central Committee has the responsibility to fill the vacancy. As the grassroots base for the Democratic Party, we advance democratic ideals and advance party issues to make our city, state, and nation thrive.

My Commitment To The Issues

Public Safety

As the Reentry representative for the Baltimore City Public Safety Advisory Commission, I'm committed to enhancing police-resident interactions to foster trust and strengthen community safety, with a special focus on the well-being of vulnerable groups like children and seniors.

In my efforts to address violence, I've established a nonprofit called The Flowers Whiting Initiative, dedicated to supporting community leaders who disrupt its cycle and advocating for evidence-based reentry and anti-recidivism strategies. By implementing community policing programs, we aim to cultivate positive relationships between law enforcement and residents.

I remain dedicated to championing grassroots organizations that mediate conflicts and prevent violence, while also expanding support programs for individuals at risk of criminal activity. By working together, we can proactively and collaboratively create a safer Baltimore for all.

Education

Our students deserve a quality education in comfortable environments, equipped with proper resources. As your representative, I will support initiatives that set our young people up for success and advocate for adequate funding for our city schools. I am committed to securing increased funding and resources, ensuring our children receive the world-class education they deserve. This includes providing teachers with professional development and competitive salaries, as well as investing in school infrastructure and technology to create safe and conducive learning environments.

Healthy Neighborhoods and Communities

I believe in the vitality of neighborhoods when everyone is invested in their future. As your representative, I advocate for the remediation of vacant and blighted housing, along with investments to eliminate food deserts. Supporting initiatives that invest in our people and communities is paramount.

I champion initiatives for responsible economic growth and the creation of good jobs, which uplift all residents. By carefully developing housing options without displacing current residents, we can attract new residents and revitalize our neighborhoods sustainably.

I am committed to encouraging smaller footprint stores selling fresh foods and utilizing vacant lots for urban gardens. These efforts not only improve access to healthy food but also enhance community well-being and vibrancy.
